The Lauren Napier Beauty philosophy is, “there is beauty in taking it off.” After a decade in the beauty industry, I was constantly discouraged by the comments made by the many individuals who sat in my makeup chair. There were often disparaging or self deprecating statements lingering in the air as the actors, politicians, every day people or even models would sit in my chair. I would work my magic and they would feel like a new and more vibrant version of themselves. Of course, I was doing my job and all were happy with the outcome but at the end of the day, when all was said and done, there was nothing better for these same people than moving about the world in their bare skin. The reveal, fresh faces and clean skin was freeing - it was the one time in the day when everyone achieved peak happiness and when they were at their best. This is why I created Lauren Napier Beauty, because "there is beauty in taking it off!”

Helen Mirren, Eva Longoria, Andie McDowell and Duckie Thot are L’Oreal spokeswomen busting beauty standards. Dame Helen Mirren is 74 and vivacious, Andie McDowell is in her 50’s and her evolving skin is beautiful, Duckie Thot’s complexion is rich and hypnotic - and inclusive of their natural beauty and reflective of the faces we see out in the world.

CoverGirl is reaching out to a different kind of woman, every woman. Sofia Vergara represents the vivacious and “eh-helm” 40 year old forever sexy and forever young woman. Pink represents new mother and anti-frilly girl’s-girl. The newest face to smile side by side with the CoverGirl name is Janelle Monae. Monae is one of my favorite R&B stars. The singer is talented, fashionable and fresh a perfect pick for CoverGirl, bringing a new face to modern beauty. Smooth brown skin, full brows, and natural hair, the newest CoverGirl smolders without being syrupy, sexy. She is appealing with out being in your face. She is likeable, she is “Easy, breezy, beautiful CoverGirl!”

“I believe it’s time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them,” said Monáe in a statement. “One of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique.”

I am a huge fan of individuality and the minimalist approach. I am excited to see the person beneath the makeup and not a generic, contoured cut-out of a woman beneath layers of makeup. Who are we all trying to look like? The contour is the new plastic surgery, less invasive yet everyone looks the same. I want to see you! I want to see your natural beauty and what makes you unique. I understand and agree women and men can do whatever pleases them and we are not defined by our makeup or lack there of. This is my preference - do what you like. When the day is done, work is over, you get home and that door closes behind you, when you kick of your heels, bra, wig, clip-ins and remove your makeup, I think we can all agree , there is beauty in being you, there is beauty in taking it off.
