1. Looking back on your first job, what skill did you use that you still use today?

My first job was a summer job working in the hospital doing administrative/clerical work.  I would say the skill I have carried over from that experience until present day is the importance of keeping excellent records and keeping a handle on sometimes overwhelming amounts of paperwork.

2. Was there a defining moment that made you start your business?

I never intended on starting a business per say. I was at a point in my life where I had quit my job, was just getting out of a relationship and overall questioning the direction of my life.  I started to look inwardly for answers and found myself wanting to chop off all of my hair, I wanted a fresh start.  With that action, I decided to start using all natural products for my hair and could not find anything in the market that suited my needs.  At this point I had 15 years experience in doing fabric research & development in the fashion industry and decided to do what came most natural to me...RESEARCH!  I ordered some organic ingredients and started playing around with them and created my own hair gel.  Soon after my friends and family started to ask me to make hair gel for them and from there S Dot Beauty was born.  Now we offer a full line of lifestyle beauty  products for head to toe care! We have a line for women, men and children.

3. What was he first step you took to launch your brand?

I started by opening an Etsy store because I felt it was a great platform to get my brand/products exposed to a wide and like minded audience.

4. What is the greatest lesson learned in your first year in business?

What I learned is that everything is not for everybody!  As an entrepreneur and more so a creator of tangible products, you are very sensitive to what people think or say about your creations.  I had to learn to not take criticisms so personal but, filter through them and pull from them what is most applicable to helping me achieve my goals for S Dot Beauty.

5. What is your best piece of advice for your fellow Female Founder?

Follow your gut! Women have a unique intuition that is God given, use it. It will never fail you!
