A Q&A BETWEEN WOMEN WHO'VE STARTED THEIR OWN BUSINESS

1.Looking back on your first job, what skill did you use that you still use today?

My first job was a server at McLoone's Pierhouse. As a server I learned the value and importance of customer service. I still use that concept today, because how you treat your customers (especially your responsiveness) goes a long way. You want to leave your customers with a positive repor of you, your brand, and product, so treating them well really helps (regardless of tough situations).

             2. Was there a defining moment that made you start your business?

I was at a point in my life where I was struggling to find a purpose and what I genuinely wanted to do in life. One thing that was always inexplicably consistent was my love of good scents and good music. After long days of government work, I would always light candles and play music every time I got home. That consistent routine made me feel so relaxed, and I really valued the feeling it gave my mind/body. Although my routine was simple, I enjoyed it and felt it could be of service to someone else. That's when I decided to create my business.

 3. What was the first step you took to launch your brand?

Research, research, research. I knew I had an idea but I also knew that there was a market, strategy, and plan I had to follow to get out on the right foot. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel so I researched what worked, what didn't, and how I would find a way to stand out in saturated market.

4. What is the greatest lesson learned in your first year in business?

I'm still learning, but the greatest lesson for me has been to "measure twice and cut once". It seems obvious, but I've spent a lot of money on designs, scents, marketing, packaging, art work only to have to go back to the drawing board all over again. It's easy to get excited about your passion, but 100% knowing your brand, scheme, designs, plans and course of actions before acting on them will help you save time and money.

 5. What is your best piece of advise for your fellow Female Founder?

Keep pushing, keeping striving, and keep being a #BOSSBABE!! Stay positive and celebrate every little thing you've accomplished (you deserve it). You're inspiring so many women around you whether you realize it or not! xo
